 Mogadishu: Somalia, a economically weaker country, has achieved a special place in the health sector. The United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) said on Sunday that in the last three years, no case of polio has been recorded in Somalia, due to which it is declared polio free. WHO said that the last case of polio in Somalia was registered in 2014 but after that no case has been brought to light. The WHO warned that but the polio vaccine should continue.

 The WHO's Eastern Mediterranean Chief Mohammed Faki said that the outbreak of the viral vaccination campaign that was carried out strongly by international organizations and government, did not spread the outbreak of the virus again.

Apart from this, Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan still suffer from polio. Somalia President Mohamed Abdullahi Fermazo praised efforts to make his country free of polio.


Fermazo said, "There has been no new case of polio for the last three years, nor did any child suffer from this disease, many of our children have been battling polio for years and it was a success to overthrow polio. It was a collective endeavor, in which the youth had a great hand. "

Somalia has been freed from polio but it is still struggling with measles outbreaks.
