Islamabad: Pakistan issued a visa to the Indian prisoner Kulbhushan Jadhav's wife and mother to visit Islamabad. Pakistan's Foreign Office gave this information. After getting the visa, Jadhav's wife and mother, 47, will now be able to meet him. In April, a military court in Pakistan had sentenced Jadhav to death for allegations of espionage and terrorism. After this, India had approached the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in May.

Until the final verdict on India's appeal, the ICJ had banned Jadhav from being sentenced to death. Foreign Office spokesman Mohammad Faisal tweeted, "The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi issued a visa to Commander Jadhav's mother and wife so that they could come to Islamabad to meet him." Pakistan has agreed to meet Jadhav on December 25 with his mother and wife. He has also agreed on this demand of India that an officer of the High Commission of India located in Islamabad is allowed to go with him too.

Last week, Pakistan had directed its High Commission in New Delhi to issue a visa to Jadhav's mother and wife. Pakistan claims that its security forces had arrested Jadhav alias Hussain Mubarak Patel from his troubled province Balochistan on March 3 last year when he allegedly entered Iran from the Pakistani border. However, India says that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran and after his retirement from the Indian Navy, he has business interests there.
