FIFA WORLD CUP 2018: Portugal enters the pre-quarterfinals by playing a draw from Iran

Portugal played a 1-1 draw from Iran in a Ramanchak match of group B, played late in the FIFA World Cup in Russia, thanks to the brilliant goal of Ricardo Quaresema by Portugal. With this draw, Portugal secured five points in three group-level matches and remained on second place in the table and made it to the last 16 of the tournament while Iran could only achieve four points in three matches. Iran remained third in the table. In the Mordovia Arena, the only goal for Iran was by Karim Ansarifard. Like in the last two matches led by Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal made a quick start in this match, and in the third minute, Ronaldo got the chance to score from the left side inside the box. Ronaldo tried very well, but he could not make the ball in the goal.


After getting the opportunity to score in the beginning of the match, the confidence of the Portuguese players increased and they put pressure on Iran's defense and midfield. Portugal got free-kick outside the box in the 16th minute, although Ronaldo could not give his team an edge. After the initial attacks, the team of Iran managed to maintain and control the ball better. In the 19th minute, Iran's player gave midfielder Alireza Jahamboshesh the best in the box of Portugal but before he could reach the ball, goalkeeper Rui Patricio came forward from his place and saved his team from the first one. At the end of the first half, something was on the verge that in the 45th minute, Portugal's midfielder Ricardo Quaresma scored a fine goal from the right edge of the box giving the team a 1-0 lead.

Prior to the end of the match, the referee once again took the help of VAr in the Injury Time (93rd minute) and this time Iran got a penalty. Karim Ansarifard put the ball in the goal and brought the match to a match. However, this draw did not reach Iran in the pre-quarterfinals.
