Thanks to five wickets from leg spinner Imran Tahir, South Africa defeated Zimbabwe by 34 runs in the first T20 International. South Africa first scored 160 runs on 6 wickets, and then Tahir (five for 23 runs), due to the spell of spin, the hosts piled up 126 runs.

Peter Moore hit left-arm spinner Tabrez Shamsi for four consecutive sixes and combined with Brandon Maavuta to add 53 runs in 19 balls for the eighth wicket, Zimbabwe showed a ray of hope, but the loss of the visiting team was fixed as the partnership collapsed. Moore scored 44 runs in 21 balls, while Maavuta scored 28 runs in 14 balls.

Prior to South Africa, Wis der Dussen, who was making his debut for the tourists, scored 56 runs. He landed at the crease at the time when the team was in trouble after losing two wickets in 11 overs in the second over.

Dussen also shared a 87-run partnership with David Miller (39) in 66 balls for the fourth wicket. Captain Faf du Plessis also scored 34 runs in 20 balls.

Zimbabwe's Kyle Jarvis scored three for 37, while Chris Moffu took two wickets for 24 runs. Former skipper of the Zimbabwe Under-19 team and leg spinner Maavuta got one wicket for 19 runs in four overs.
