The directors of Avengers: Endgame have confirmed that one of the off-camera encounters that we took as inevitable for the end of the film took place.
The Russo brothers have confirmed that Captain America and Red Skull had to see each other's faces when Steve Rogers traveled to Vormir to return the Soul Gem.
"He had to meet with Red Skull," said Joe Russo. "No one knows what the rules are for returning the Soul Gem," his brother continued. "Knowing Red Skull is likely to have a non-refoulement policy," in reference to the inability to recover the lives of Black Widow or Gamora.
Unfortunately this is a moment that is not seen in the film and in fact it is expected that in the future an entire film will be dedicated to Rogers' travels for the time to return all the Infinity Gems, because we do not know if there was any mishap the way.
No doubt meeting the villain of the first movie of Captain America on an alien planet and turned into a kind of spectrum that changes the Soul Gem in exchange for a life must have been a discovery for Rogers.
