THOR: THE DARK WORLD |
When Thor: The Dark World was released we were very close to meet Balder, the other brother of Thor and Loki, but it was apparently eliminated just before the final script was finished.
Concept artist Charlie Wen showed off new art from the film on his Instagram account with the text "This is how Thor's other brother was about to look, revisiting my Balder design before leaving my position at Thor: The Dark World " The publication shows Balder wearing a long coat of hair and armor while holding two swords and another art shows Thor battling several enemies in a snowfield.
In the MCU, Loki is presented as Thor's adopted brother from the first film, while his sister Hela appears as the main villain in Thor: Ragnarok. Baldur is Thor's half brother in Norse mythology and is the son of Odin and Frigg; Thor, on the other hand, is the son of Odin and Jord. In the Marvel comics, Thor's brothers include Balder, Hermod and Tyr, with Balder being one of the closest to our avenger.
It is not clear why Balder was removed from the film, but it seems at one point Marvel was interested in the character. The film went through some difficulties in its production when the director Patty Jenkins left the project alleging creative differences with the study.
