Disney has hired actress and music Halle Bailey for the role.

Disney has already found her new Ariel for the adaptation of The Little Mermaid to real action, as it has been confirmed that the actress and music Halle Bailey will be the protagonist of this story.

The film will be directed by Rob Marshall, who recently directed The Return of Mary Poppins for Disney. The songs of the classic animation, written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, will be in this adaptation accompanied by new compositions by Menken with lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

"After an intensive search, it was quite clear that Halle had that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance - in addition to a glorious voice to sing - all intrinsic qualities to interpret this iconic role.

It is expected that during the Disney D23 Expo will be announced other actors and actresses for the distribution of this adaptation. The event will take place at the end of August.

Recent rumors say that Melissa McCarthy is in full negotiations to play Ursula in this remake of real action, despite this Disney has not confirmed anything officially.
